#114 | Does #BlackGirlMagic Pay the Bills?

While #BlackGirlMagic has given us life throughout 2016, the power and influence of Black women in Hollywood hasn’t always translated to their bottom line. We discuss how Taraji P. Henson was paid far less than her co-stars in “Benjamin Button”, Gabrielle Union suing BET for trying to pull a fast one with her 40 hours and Disney trying to scam sweet little Doc McStuffins out her share of the profits from merchandising.

In addition to giving #BlackGirlMagic their due and their coins, the Say Something Nice crew – and John’s cat, Putt-Putt – discuss #WokeNewtGingrich in Ava DuVernay’s documentary “13th”, Donald Trump’s Yuge media takeover, Greg Berlanti proving it’s not hard to get Superman right (Hey, Zack Snyder!), Michel’le “Surviving Compton” and possibly defaming Dr. Dre, the rise of FL Studio – along with producers like Soulja Boy and Kaytranada, and Betsey McCaughey learns a very important lesson about the wrath of the Beyhive.

Plus, we say goodbye to yet another star who was like family, Tommy Ford, aka Tommy from “Martin”. Damn you, 2016.

Join Brandon, John, Kareem, Ken, and Jamison as we discuss, dissect, and try to make sense of the past, present, and future in film, television, music, animation, race relations in media - and on occasion comics and tech - while trying to remain sane. If you’re tired of hearing the same (*ahem*) monochromatic take on modern media, we’re the podcast for you!
