#134.75 | Best of: Blaxploitation & Basslines

We revisit our discussion from last year on blaxploitation soundtracks!
From the late 1960s to the end of the 1970s, dozens of films with mostly Black casts had soundtracks crafted for them by some of the biggest musicians of the day, among them Melvin Van Peebles, Isaac Hayes, Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, and many more. The Say Something Nice crew discusses the history of these blaxploitation soundtracks from films such as “Shaft”, “Superfly”, “Claudine”, “The Mack”, “Black Caesar”, and “Trouble Man”.

Join Brandon, John, Kareem, Ken, and Jamison as we discuss, dissect, and try to make sense of the past, present, and future in film, television, music, animation, race relations in media - and on occasion comics and tech - while trying to remain sane. If you’re tired of hearing the same (*ahem*) monochromatic take on modern media, we’re the podcast for you!
