#183 | “4:44” is Grown Man Jay-Z & Bruno Mars is Unseasoned Fried Chicken (feat. @knockturnalpro & @tREBLEFREE) | #sayhowyoufeel

Like his wife did last year with “Lemonade,” Sean Carter, aka Jay-Z, broke the internet with the surprise release of his (existing subscriber) Tidal exclusive album “4:44.” Joined by special guests Carolyn and Greg aka tREBLEFREE for the second half of the four-hour marathon recording, the SSN Crew has a spirited, in-depth discussion about the album, including whether or not the growth shown on the album is too little too late, the history of The Clark Sisters (sampled on the album’s “Higher”), the animated video for “The Story of O.J.” which references racist 1930s/1940s Hollywood cartoons, and more.

In addition, the Say Something Nice Challenge features discussion of Hannibal Buress’ stunt at the “Spider-Man: Homecoming” premiere, Joe Budden’s near-fight at the BET Awards with Migos, and a debate over whether or not non-Black Bruno Mars is appropriating Black culture.

Join Brandon, John, Kareem, Ken, and Jamison as we discuss, dissect, and try to make sense of the past, present, and future in film, television, music, animation, race relations in media - and on occasion comics and tech - while trying to remain sane. If you’re tired of hearing the same (*ahem*) monochromatic take on modern media, we’re the podcast for you!
