SSNPod #225 | Guess Who’s Coming to the 2018 Golden Globes? | #saysomethingnew

The nominations for this award season’s Golden Globes Awards have been revealed! While there are some notable inclusions of people of color with Octavia Spencer, Issa Rae, and Daniel Kaluuya, films such as “Get Out” and “Mudbound” are underrepresented. Worse, “The Big Sick” and “Girls Trip” are absent. The SSN Crew discusses the 2018 Golden Globe nominations, Jada Pinkett Smith sticking up for her “Girls Trip” co-star Tiffany Haddish, and how the SAG Awards nominations look better for actors this year. We finish with a discussion of how, on the eve of the 50th anniversary of Sidney Kramer’s “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” and its induction into the National Film Registry, the story Sidney Poitier “ruining” a young white woman still grates old, racist cinephiles.

Join Brandon, John, Kareem, Ken, and Jamison as we discuss, dissect, and try to make sense of the past, present, and future in film, television, music, animation, race relations in media - and on occasion comics and tech - while trying to remain sane. If you’re tired of hearing the same (*ahem*) monochromatic take on modern media, we’re the podcast for you!
