Despite scoring more hits over a longer tenure as lead singer of the Temptations than David Ruffin, the Alabama-bred and Detroit-reared Dennis Edwards seemed to exist – unfairly, we believe – in the shadow of his predecessor. As a matter of fact, some within our podcast network feel Edwards – who passed away at 74 last week – was the greatest lead singer the Tempts ever had. In this special tribute episode, the SSN Crew and special guests Carolyn from the C-Dubb Show and Greg aka TREBLEFREE recount the life and career of the man who brought songs like “Cloud Nine,” “Papa was a Rollin’ Stone,” and the Siedah Garrett duet “Don’t Look Any Further” to glorious, gospel-tinged life, and whether he or Ruffin stands supreme as the best of “the voices.”
